(May 28, 2026)

After nearly three years of policy uncertainty that brought Alberta's corporate renewable energy market to a near standstill, things are beginning to move again. To help the community keep pace, BRC-Canada is launching the Market in Motion Primer Series: a collection of in-depth resources, each focused on a major policy area shaping Alberta's evolving renewables landscape.

The first primer is publicly available. It maps the full scope of the market redesign process, from the early momentum that made Alberta Canada's leading destination for business-driven renewable investment, through the freeze that followed four major streams of policy reform, and into the policy areas now beginning to resolve. From there, the series will follow the pace of policy finalization throughout 2026 and into 2027, with new editions covering congestion risk, the restructured energy market, connection costs, carbon pricing and more, released exclusively to BRC-Canada community participants as they arrive.

Each primer examines:

  • how policy changes will affect renewable energy development and operations
  • what that means for corporate offtake agreements
  • what kinds of commercial innovations can help mitigate and efficiently allocate these risks

Alongside each primer, BRC-Canada will host a webinar bringing together expert perspectives on each topic. The vision is an informed market that can overcome the risks and challenges of this moment and enable renewed investment in Alberta's renewable energy sector.
