New Buyer: Canadian Tire
A big welcome to our newest buyer participant! Canadian Tire is a leading retailer with over 1,700 locations across Canada, as well as financial services, and e-commerce capabilities. Canadian Tire has a strong commitment to ESG; they are a founding member of the Canada Plastics Pact, met their 2021 emissions reductions targets, and last year generated 36,951 GJ of energy from solar installations on store rooftops. New Developer: EDP Renewables
A big welcome to our newest developer participant! EDP Renewables North America LLC has 58 wind farms, nine solar parks, and seven regional offices across North America. Headquartered in Houston, Texas, with more than 950 employees, EDPR NA has developed more than 8,800 megawatts (MW) and operates more than 8,200 MW of onshore utility-scale renewable energy projects. EDP Renewables breaks ground on Sharp Hills Wind Farm
EDP Renewables North America (EDPR NA) began construction in August on the 297-megawatt (MW) Sharp Hills Wind Farm in southeast Alberta, thanks to a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with TC Energy executed in September 2021. This is the company's third renewable energy project in Canada, which will produce enough energy to power the equivalent of more than 160,000 Alberta homes annually. The project will reportedly create 300 construction jobs and 15 to 20 permanent jobs, as well as save more than two billion liters of water each year.

TIER regulations review
After an active summer of policy consultation for the renewable energy industry in Canada, Alberta Environment and Parks is reviewing input on the Technology Innovation and Emissions Reduction (TIER) Regulation system. The decisions that come out of this process will need to be tested for sufficiency against Environment and Climate Change Canada’s (ECCC) benchmarking for the federal carbon pricing system. These decisions could impact the market for renewable energy procurement by determining the volume of TIER compliance instruments (offsets and credits) renewable energy projects will be able to generate. We anticipate greater resolution on policy decisions over the coming fall. ➡️ FIND OUT MORE
