With summer in full swing and the world starting to return to a new version of normal, we hope you’re soaking up the rays and starting to socialize! Here are the main points for this summer newsletter:

NEWS & UPDATES
Deal Tracker Q2 Update — In April, BRC-Canada launched its inaugural Deal Tracker, Canada’s first public curation capturing corporate procurement of renewable energy. At the time, deals announced in 2021 alone had already surpassed any previous year. Now, as a newly updated Deal Tracker is published at this year’s halfway mark, that record has been smashed again. Read our related blog and don’t forget to log in to the member portal for access to the members-only version.
New BRC analyst — A big welcome to our new analyst Calvin Ng. Calvin holds a bachelor of commerce with a concentration in energy management from the University of Calgary. He previously worked at a solar installation company and then as a sustainability analyst with a procurement services provider, where he developed supply chain procurement road-maps combined with the UN Sustainable Development Goals to create a comprehensive database for industry-wide use. Calvin originally hails from Hong Kong and lives in Calgary. In his spare time, he enjoys rock climbing and organizing night markets in the city.

NEW MEMBER: Capstone Infrastructure Corporation

Capstone Infrastructure is an independent power producer headquartered in Toronto with extensive experience in developing, constructing, financing, and operating renewable energy projects. Capstone’s operating fleet consists of 29 plants in Canada, with total installed capacity of over 760 MW, approximately $1.4 billion in assets, and includes wind, solar, hydro, biomass and natural gas co-generation.
In April 2021, Capstone completed the 132 MW Claresholm Solar Project in Alberta, which is currently the largest operating solar facility in Canada. Looking to the future, Capstone is progressing a 1.5 GW pipeline of wind, solar, and battery storage projects in Canada and the United States.

MARKET NEWS
Largest electricity procurement of renewable energy projects announced for Nova Scotia — An RFP will be issued in Nova Scotia to attract low-cost and innovative solutions to supply 10 per cent of the province’s electricity from renewables, such as wind and solar. This will create 4,000 jobs, and generate more than $550 million in construction activity in wind-rich areas, mostly in rural Nova Scotia. READ MORE.
