Problem solving and seizing opportunities: we're bringing insightful experts and experienced veterans together in a set of interactive sessions that will unlock the potential of power purchase agreements for your company! A lot has happened in Canada's renewable energy world in the short time since BRC-Canada's last forum. Some of it shows great promise. Other circumstances are...more challenging.
But this conference, for BRC-Canada participants only, is a prime opportunity to dig into the solutions to those challenges and the opportunities brought on by the evolution of the market. It's also a chance to reconnect with the buyers and developers working towards the same sustainability goals. Join us and find out what's new and what's just over the horizon for power purchase agreements in the Canadian market!
FORUM AGENDA
Welcome and Opening Remarks 9:00 a.m.
Jorden Dye, Director, BRC-Canada
John Van Ham, Senior Director, Industrial Decarbonization, Pembina Institute
State of the Market
We'll ease into the day by bringing everyone up to speed and on a shared footing with a summary of the current state of the power purchase agreement market in Canada.
Workshop (phase 1): Market challenges and solutions in Alberta
We'll develop a common understanding of market challenges in the Alberta market before taking a deep dive into potential solutions. We'll discuss the areas of uncertainty and decide how risk is best managed.
Workshop (phase 2): Power purchase strategies
Attendees will have plenty of options to encourage lively discussions! One group will tackle the type of language that could help crack the nut of allocating Alberta market risk in a power purchase agreement. The goal is always to find the path that allows deal progression.
Others will be able to choose from a variety of topics, including:
- how companies are overcoming internal challenges to advance transactions
- will we be able to undertake transactions in Alberta in 2025?
- how can we accelerate procurement in Ontario?
LUNCH 12:30 - 1:30 p.m.
Emerging Procurement Strategies
After hashing out the current market situation in the morning, along with its myriad challenges, we're going to switch to a scenario where the market uncertainties have cleared, either by contract or legislation, and look ahead to another world of possibilities!
This session will focus on procurement strategies that go beyond annual matching. This is where our experienced buyers come in. Some of them have been at this for 10 years and have developed different strategies and associated goals. New buyers could pick up some valuable tips here! Think: load-aligned procurement; procurement focused on high-emission regions; procurement employing lowest carbon emissions materials; procurement for, or with, suppliers/customers; and much more!
Changing the Market: Wish lists and tactics
Crowd sourcing helps establish a barometer for the mood in Canada's PPA market. This session will tap into the top changes the BRC-Canada community would like to see in the renewable energy market and how they think those changes could be made.
Wrap up 5:00 p.m.
